![]() ![]() The Personal Collection of Parnelli Jones Main Attraction Select Red/Red Survivor Corvettes from the Dr. The Thunderbird is being sold with the original window sticker, owner’s card and keypad code card, plus books, manuals, copies of previous registrations and even the business card of the salesman who sold the car. Standalone options on the Turbo Coupe include a power moonroof and graphic equalizer. The refinement is apparent in the long list of amenities inside this car, including the Preferred Equipment Package (six-way power driver’s seat, tilt steering column, power windows, AM/FM stereo with cassette), Premium Luxury Group (dual power seats, power radio antenna) and the Electronic Equipment Group (electronic climate control, keyless entry). Standard equipment also included 4-wheel antilock disc brakes. A new turbocharger, redesigned induction system and the addition of an air-to-air intercooler increased the output of the 2.3L 4-cylinder to 190 HP (when joined with the standard 5-speed manual transmission) and 240 lb-ft of torque. The 1987-88 Thunderbirds received a modest styling facelift, but there was more important news under the Turbo Coupe’s hood. In that regard this Thunderbird is much like the very first T-Birds of the mid-1950s: an intriguing blend of sporty refinement. ![]() Thunderbirds of this era shared Ford’s Fox platform with the Mustang, and yet the Thunderbird was always positioned as a car that was somehow more than a Mustang-not sportier, not racier, but for a buyer who appreciated performance but wanted amenities at a higher level than the pony car. The original Oxford White paint still gleams, and the original Raven Charcoal upholstery shows little wear. The Turbo Coupe has traveled just 45,000 miles and has been in the care of the same family since new. Coming to Indianapolis as part of the Waterford Collection of choice Ford products, this 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe presents as a nearly new car, despite the more than 30 years that have passed since it came off the assembly line. ![]()
